A walk around Selsey in West Sussex

From the roundabout on the A27 Chichester bypass take the B2145 to Selsey
When you come into Selsey at the traffic lights turn right for the Budgens store and follow the road round to your left and park near the football ground.

Distance 3.5 miles.

Distance 4 miles when adding the blue route.

Walk back to the main road and turn right and walk up the High Street. Turn right into West Street and at the junction turn right and follow the road round to West Sands Caravan Park. As you approach it the windmill will come into view. Picture on the right. Turn left in front of the Mill and take the footpath down to the sea. Now turn left and head for the Coast Guard Station that you can see in the distance. Picture below

Coast Guard Cottages

As you approach the buildings on your left you will see the Coast Guard Cottages. Picture above.

Keep to the path by the side of the lookout tower, you then meet a road.Turn right and at the end of the road the picture below is looking towards Bracklesham and the Witterings. On a clear day if you look out to sea slightly to your right you will see the Isle of Wight.

Near the Lifeboat station

Retrace your footsteps back down the road passing the lookout tower and turn right down Clayton Road and follow it round to the main street where you turn right and walk down to the sea.Turn left and walk along the sea front. Picture above .When the concrete path ends it will be necessary to walk on stones for a short distance.

At the end of the grassed area with children's play area you need to bear to your left for a short distance, then turn right coming out again to the sea. Turn left and the Lifeboat Station comes into view. Picture on the right and above. Follow this path to the Lifeboat Station.You can go and view the Lifeboat in its shelter. In the summer there are lots of boats moored nearby and quite a lot of fishing ones as the picture below.

You can know carry on along the sea wall to a car park and go up Beach Road,Church Road and turn left at the main Selsey Road that you came in on, and walk back to the lights turning into Budgens and round to your car. Blue on map. Or from the lifeboat come back a short distance, take the concrete steps into Albion Road and follow it round into East Street and back to the High Street where you turn right, walk back to the traffic lights and your car.

When you return to Selsey again for a walk around take some of the other roads and footpaths and make up your own route. Most roads lead you back to the High Street.
