A circular walk from Cissbury Ring

This circular walk is on the open downs with great views in all directions. First heading up towards Chanctonbury Ring then turn's East along the South Downs Way passing Steyning Bowl and Canada bottom.

Distance 6½ miles Time 3 hours

Walk's 28 and 29 can be joined together to make an 11 mile walk.
Just leave out the small piece of road marked by an x on the maps.

From A24 Findon roundabout follow the yellow route out to Cissbury Ring on the above map. There is parking at the start of the walk but it is a bit rough. Alternatively park in the car park shown on the map above, it just means you have to walk the last part of the road to Cissbury Ring.

Cissbury Ring from the car park

Once at Cissbury Ring take the path North heading up towards Chanctonbury Ring shown in the picture above. Ignore all paths on the left and right.

Before you get to the South Downs Way over to your left you get a glimpse of Chanctonbury Ring,shown in the picture on the left

Once at the road(this road runs from Sompting over the downs to Steyning)cross over onto the path just inside the field. No2 on map

This path keeps you off the road

Keep going until you come to the gate in the picture on the left. the South Downs Way now goes left but you need to use the other gate out onto the road. No3 on map. Continue along the road being aware that you might have to step onto the grass if a car comes along.

After a short distance the road heads downhill to the car park shown in the picture above, where you turn right. No4 on map Straight ahead in the distance you can see Cissbury Ring where you started from. Picture on the right.

Just keep going along this track back to your car

Keep going along this track and when you reach this junction in the picture above take either path as they join up again in about 100 yards. Eventually you skirt around Cissbury Ring back to your car.
