This circular walk from West Dean takes you across Warren Down to Hylter's Lane,on to Hat Hill and down to Singleton.Up to the top of the Trundle with it's panoramic views and finishing with a long downhill run back to West Dean. It passes the disused Midhurst railway line twice and gives you good views of Goodwood race course.

Distance 8.5miles. At West Dean on the A286 turn down the road by the side of the pub and park on the grass by the side of the Lavant. |

Pub on the right |
Walk back up the road passing the post office on your right to the pub. Cross straight over with the school on your left,after a short distance you come to the old Midhurst to Chichester railway line where the road goes under at a bridge. Keep going up the road that starts to go uphill and take the footpath on the left shown in the photo on the right. |

No2 on map Follow this path up through the trees and out into the open then follow the path in the photo above to the farm. Keep to the left of the farm buildings. The path now goes diagonally to the left then straight down to the bottom of the field,to the stile shown in the picture on the right. Carry straight on to the lane indicated in the picture on the right |

This is a quite road with two dwellings on the right,eventually bringing you to the gate shown in the picture on the left where you carry straight on. At the end of the open fields take the path on the right shown in the picture on the right |

This path take you past the house that you see in the picture on the left and eventually to Colworth Farm where it joins a road and after a short distance take the path on the left by two cottages. Picture on the right. |

This path is shown in the picture on the left and you take the path on the right at the end of the open field. keep to this path and eventually you have to go left over the stile shown in the picture on the right. Now turn right and follow the edge of the field keeping the hedge to your right all the way to Hat Hill shown in the picture lower right. Singleton can be seen in the distance. |

Along this path to your right you get glimpses of the open air museum at Singleton. Picture above left. Still keep the hedge on your right and lookout for the stile shown in the picture on the left, where you drop down some steps and then cross the old railway line again, over a bridge then along a path to the gate shown in the picture on the right. |

Cricket pavilion |
Turn to your right and then bear to your left behind the cricket pavillion. Picture on the left. Keep going to the left over to some houses and then to the road. Picture on the right. You are now at Singleton.Turn left then right after a few yards. |

Carry on through the village and turn right just before the pub down to the church. Enter through the church gate and take the path on the right that follows the wall to the small gate that you can just see in the picture on the right. Cross the open yard and take the path uphill towards theTrundle |

You may need to stop once or twice on this climb to admire the view's around you. Eventually you meet the road coming up from Charlton where you turn to your right and carry on up the hill. Picture on the left. To your left you now get views of Goodwood Race Course |

When you meet the road at the top cross straight over and carry on up to the top of theTrundle Hill.Picture above right. At the top take the path that runs diagonally to the right and then drops down to the gate shown in the picture on the left. Carry straight on down the stone path to the gate and small car park picture below left,then straight on as picture below centre. After about 30yards there is a house on your right, where you follow the fence to the right and take the opening shown in the picture below right |
