Route from Chichester bypass

When you get into the village lookout for the parking on the left as in the picture on the left. Or find a side road where you can park. Walk along to the corner,as the picture on the right.Take the road on the right that leads to the church and the beach.

After a short distance on the left is the road to the beach but you turn right down Ellanore Lane. Picture on the left. At the end of this lane you reach Chichester Harbour. Your route is now left but first carry on ahead a few more yards to look out across the harbour as the two pictures below.

To your right the water goes round to West Itchenor,Bosham, Chichester Marina and Dell Quay. Ahead slightly to the left is Thorney Island.

Back in Ellanore Lane turn left and just keep to the coastal path eventually coming out by a large grassed area in the picture above. By now you can see East Head jutting out into the harbour as the picture on the right.

Carry on the coast path as picture on the left and when you almost reach the beach, swing round to the right towards East Head and cross onto it as picture above.

Keep to the right hand side and carry straight ahead following the shape of the peninsular. At the end you get good views of the harbour and if you look straight ahead to the downs you can see Kingley Vale with it's Yew trees.

Carry on round and on your right across the harbour entrance is Hayling Island. When back to the beginning of East Head, picture above cross back on the same path straight ahead to the beach.

On a clear day the Isle of Wight can be seen out to sea slightly to your right.

The next part of the walk takes you along West Wittering beach, with it's beach huts and sandy beach that is very popular in the summer. Behind the beach huts is the car park that has a cafe where you can get a drink or ice cream etc.

At the end of the beach huts head for the gap shown in the picture on the left, that takes you into the car park. Shown in the picture on the right.

Keep right and go out through the entrance to the car park and follow the path shown in the picture on the left. When you get to the point shown in the picture on the right turn left down to the church

Follow the road round to the right and keep right as shown in the picture on the right. This takes you back to the start of the walk
