A circular walk from High Titten Lane near Amberley to Lee Farm returning by way of Chantry Post and the South Downs Way.

Traveling towards Storrington on the B2139 take the first road on your right after Amberley railway station. Drive up to the junction on your left and park on the grass verge.

Ordnance Survey Map: Landranger No 197/ 1-50000 Or for more detail Explorer No 121/ 1-25000.

Distance 9 miles. Time 4 hours.

From where you park your car carry on up the road and as it swings to the right take the path on the left shown in the picture above. This is the South Downs Way.It's a short uphill climb that brings you to the gate in the picture on the right. The South Downs Way carry's on straight ahead uphill.Your route is to the right that is marked on the photo on the right. Ignore the track that runs back to Downs farm.

This area gets very muddy in the winter especially by the gate.

Keep to this track as it swings to your left. It can still be quit muddy along here as well. The path heads for the trees that you can see in the distance in the picture on the right

Rackham Banks

As you approach the trees you see Rackham Banks on your left. These run to your left back over to the South Downs Way. Go through the gate in the picture above and carry on with the trees on your left.

This path meets one crossing in front of you. Here go to your right as picture on the left.At the next junction turn right and then left straight away as picture on the right.Keep to this path eventually with a fence on your left and ignore paths to the left and right.

Clouds starting to blow in from the South West

As you approach the junctions in the photo above ignore the path on your right. Carry on and take the path indicated in the photo above to the left.

You are now on the track that leads to Lee Farm which can be seen in the photograph on the left.

After going through the farm buildings the road goes right, take the gate in the photo on the left. It swings to the left, you keep to this track all the way up to the South Downs Way at the Chantry Post. There are usually a few cars here as a road runs up from Storrington and there is a small parking area. Now turn to your left along the South Downs Way passing the metal gates in the photo on the left below.

Chantry Post with poor visibility now.

After about a mile you pass another car park on your right that comes up from the B2139.Continue straight on ignoring all paths to the left and right

As the path starts to drop Rackham Banks come into view again.

Continue straight on and when you get to Amberley Mount you look down to the point where you left the South Downs Way at the start of the walk.

Once back to the gate take the path that you came up from at the start of the walk back to your car.

On the map I have shown three blue routes so that you can shorten the walk if necessary to adjust the distance.

The car park at Springhead Hill marked on the map is very useful, for saving you the uphill walk to get on top of the downs, and is used by a lot of people.
