Park at North Marden which is on the B2141 that runs from Lavant to Harting, or park on the grass verge right at the start of the walk. When you cross the road from North Marden for the start of the walk you need to turn right and the start is about 100 yards up on the left. Between two hedges. Picture on the left below |

Take the footpath in the picture on the left and at the top turn left along a lane. No 1 on map Ignore the footpath on the right and head straight ahead for the line of Copper Beech trees. Picture on the right. |

Driveway to Telegraph House |
Here you join the driveway to Telegraph
House. Carry on up the road and the house is on the left. Part of it can
be seen in the picture on the right |

Keep straight on. The road then turns
to a stony lane bringing you to the gate in the picture on the left. No2
on map After passing through the gate you join the South Downs Way.Your
direction is straight on as the left hand path takes you on to Harting
Down. The path very quickly opens out to give good views. Picture on the

After a while the path swings to the right
and starts to drop down. On your left is Beacon Hill. When you reach the
sign in the picture on the right you could climb to the top for a good

Pen hill. Picture on the left. Then drops away just as quick. Picture

The South Downs Way now swings to the
right, as the picture on the left.It is very narrow here. After about
fifty yards you come to the junction as shown in the picture on the right.

First of all it is open fields, as the
picture on the left then through the trees that you can see followed by
a hedge on you right. Eventually you meet a lane that goes to Buriton

After a short distance when the path turns
to the right take the path straight ahead across the field. Picture on
the left to a gate picture on the right. Carry straight on with tall trees
to your right. A lot of Bluebells here at the right time of the year. |

narrow path between hedges. Picture on the left,eventually seeing the
Royal Oak ahead of you. |

To your left is the cottage in the picture
on the left. Go through the car park and out onto the road at the front

Now carefully head uphill listening for
any vehicles coming down. Before the top of the hill take the lane on

After a while the path turns sharp left then right.
At this point take the path on the left which is the first path at the
start of the walk back to your car. Picture on the left |
The next time you do this walk if you want to go to the top of Beacon Hill. At point No 2 turn left along the SDW carry on to Harting Down then right up Beacon Hill. Then drop down the other side joining the walk again. Blue on map Another addition to the walk is shown in red on the map. At point No 4 on the map instead of turning right carry on along the SDW to the lane leading to Buriton Farm. You turn left then right up a hill and as the SDW bears to the left pick up the path straight ahead that eventually swings to the right and brings you back to the Royal Oak Hooksway |
