The South Downs Way now swings to the right, as the picture on the left.It is very narrow here. After about fifty yards you come to the junction as shown in the picture on the right. No4 on map Here we leave the SDW and take the path on the right
First of all it is open fields, as the picture on the left then through the trees that you can see followed by a hedge on you right. Eventually you meet a lane that goes to Buriton Farm. Picture on the right. No5 on map Here you turn right
After a short distance when the path turns to the right take the path straight ahead across the field. Picture on the left to a gate picture on the right. Carry straight on with tall trees to your right. A lot of Bluebells here at the right time of the year.
Be careful here carry straight on the narrow path between hedges. Picture on the left, eventually seeing the Royal Oak ahead of you.
To your left is the cottage in the picture on the left. Go through the car park and out onto the road at the front of the pub. No6 on map

Royal Oak Hooksway

Now carefully head uphill listening for any vehicles coming down. Before the top of the hill take the lane on the right. Picture on the right.

After a while the path turns sharp left then right. At this point take the path on the left which is the first path at the start of the walk back to your car. Picture on the left

The next time you do this walk if you want to go to the top of Beacon Hill. At point No 2 turn left along the SDW carry on to Harting Down then right up Beacon Hill. Then drop down the other side joining the walk again. Blue on map

Another addition to the walk is shown in red on the map. At point No 4 on the map instead of turning right carry on along the SDW to the lane leading to Buriton Farm. You turn left then right up a hill and as the SDW bears to the left pick up the path straight ahead that eventually swings to the right and brings you back to the Royal Oak Hooksway
